not exactly the way to lead into the very end of the school year
so evidently i'm not worthy of entrance into the dept. chair pool despite having 18 years of real world experience doing the job and all it entails. color me disillusioned

The Journey
is over. The destination was not quite what I was hoping for, but in retrospect is probably what was deserved - as hard as that is to except.
it took a little over two days to recover, but la vie does continue...
on tap is the 25th shindig that i am going to out of a sense of honor/duty. finding outfits for said event is going to be an interesting journey on it's own.
easter and bikes for the twincesses, hopefully a trip home sometime before the end of the school year.
i am a better teacher for having undertaken the journey my students are better people and musicians for going on the same journey and now the planning begins for the next...

If
I had a firm idea in what area a true masters degree would lie for me. Obviously I still have the ability to converse and express ideas in a rarefied area. I'm not administrator material, unless they define the term. I am a frustrated composer who does not have the patience to sit through the bs required to get an imprimatur stating i is an official music writer. M. Mu Ed is a terminal degree.
guess i'll just remain a journeyman in the grand scheme of things.

Sick
pretty much sums it up. It started with Emma, went to Claire - who got over it very quickly, came to me. emma finally cleared it and now my wife - despite protestations to the contrary - has it. And guess what? I think emma is starting the cycle again.
interesting times.

and so it begins...
Mother Nature is intent on making the road to assessment a difficult one this year. The possibility of four storms in seven days for the first week of rehearsals ups the bar tremendously. Toss in a pair of very sweet, sick young ladies makes the day before the 'intended' first rehearsal an intriguing prospect at best. The last time ma nature handed me a situation like this was at DMS for the first run with Chester Variations, and we all know how that turned out. Best case scenario: a reschedule set of rehearsals. Worst Case scenario: retrench and swap out Balladair for Anthem.
Hoping for the best, fearing the worst.

48
Mother nature dumped snow Tuesday. School was closed on the birthday. So the birthday plans I had envisioned went horribly awry. But in a good way.
Did puzzles with the girls, played games with the girls, went to the Melting Pot with the wife. Got a few things at Barnes and Noble and that. was. it.
Not that that is a bad thing necessarily, just a thing. So if how you spend your birthday is a harbinger of how your year is going to go, my 48th/49th year on the planet will be a rather sedate one. One could almost say a SPICEy one.

Growing Up
Three days until 48. 48 scares me more than 50 because of the following: the girls will be starting school, one, or both, of my parents may not be around to see 49 for me, the necessity of moving is starting to become apparent. I could go on but you get the point.
The good news is work doesn't start this week until Wednesday, the natal day. The bad news is work doesn't start until Wednesday leaving me a couple of days relatively alone with my thoughts.
I made the birthday playlist yesterday. I may have the opportunity to go out this AM and get some minor gifts for myself. If not, oh well.
Girls will be waking soon, wife after that. La vie continue...

Happy New Year!
of course the Michael Ball version - with amended lyrics of course...
So yeah, the start of the year. Weather wackiness, the joys of home ownership and back to the grind.
The grind is ok and bearable for now, although the closer we get to spring the more it will get chaotic and stressful.
A real world issue is coming to head and will have to be addressed.
Other than that, la vie continue.
interesting times ahead.
